Walmer Baptist Church |
International Photo Album
Before coming to Walmer Baptist Church, the Revd Carter was minister of Clipston Baptist Church in Northamptonshire for almost 8 years and was also a director of The World Christian Mission and it's accompanying business Unity Books. The WCM aspect of the Revd Carter's ministry led to him regularly ministering overseas in many different nations. Some of the people who supported the WCM have requested a page on our church website to see some of the photos of these times as the WCM site is no longer running. We are happy to oblige. The Revd Carter has kindly written a short commentary on each photograph explaining the context.
We have watermarked these photographs as there have been cases in the past where photographs have turned up on other websites or been used without permission. If you see any of these images on other websites please report this to us. Thank you.
From the Revd Carter. When I first entered Christian ministry, I did not realize how exciting it would be. My ministry has led me to presidential palaces, speaking at foreign parliaments, eating caviar with members of the Royal family, flying in an old Dakota aeroplane over jungles in Malaysia and then trekking through those same jungles keeping a wary eye out for tigers and speaking to tribal people. I have trekked through jungles in places such as Cambodia and Vietnam and came across ancient forgotten temples, part of long lost civilizations. I have ridden on trains across deserts where some of the passengers transported their pigs and goats and somebody even bought their donkey onto the train. (imagine what health and safety would make of that in the UK).
I have had many, many adventures and share a selection of some of the pictures of them here for you. You can either browse the photos or click on the written list which will take you straight to that picture.

Adventures in Walmer

Philippines president Ramos.
at the palace with a Bishop
At the House of representatives (the Parliament of the Philippines)
At home with a Congressman, my wife's godfather.
Greeting the congregation in Manila as they turn up for worship.
Meldy, my wife, is just above the B in the picture.
Meldy, my wife.
Crowds flock to hear the gospel.
Here I am Speaking at a church in manila.
I always receive a warm welcome in the provinces of the Philippines where I have
previously spent a lot of time and know many people.
Many tribal people came down from their remote mountain villages and the nearby volcano to hear me speak.
I was the first white man some of the children had ever seen.
Speaking abroad often requires an interpreter.
Adventures in Pakistan
I spoke to crowds of many thousands of people when I was in Pakistan.
We needed a wide angle lense but did not have one. This crowd was enormous.
After hearing me speak many people became Christians and asked to be baptized.
Here is me baptizing a local man. I baptized over 30 people that day.
This lady was sick and asked me to pray with her.
We were considered holy men. People asked us to touch their garments as
a blessing to them.
I love teaching at theological colleges and Bible schools.
Back to preaching again, this time in a tent.
Again a huge crowd turned up to hear me speak.
Adventures in Clipston
I was the minister of Clipston Baptist Church for
almost eight years.
We had a lively church band to lead us in worship.
I am primarily a pastor. I enjoy teaching
in the local church I am responsible for.
The story of how this lady became a Christian really is incredible, I won't tell it here, but
it is a story of the supernatural and signs of God at work in our world.
meldy my wife is a talented singer
This was a battle of Naesby celebration. I met the duke of Gloucester next to me.
It was also the first time I spoke in front of television cameras. I have done this many
times since.
Adventures in Cambodia
I spent time at the killing fields and here at the infamous Tuel Sleng prison camp.
It was a deeply profound experience.
The ancient Angkor Wat temple. I visited this when in Siam Reap.
We found this deserted temple in the jungle and spent time resting here before
moving on.
I went to Cambodia with a shipment of Bibles to give to churches that did not have one.
To get to some places meant a walk across the rice paddie fields and through the jungle
and a tribal village.
It was worth the walk to give these people Bibles they could never afford themselves.
A Bible in Cambodia costs about $5 US. That is more than these people would earn
in a month. Their churches were saving up to buy a Bible because they did
not have one. They were very pleased to receive these Bibles as free gifts from me. I was
very pleased to be able to give them.
These farmers took a two week holiday and sat with myself and other missionaries
for two weeks as we taught them deeply about the Christian faith they had embraced.
Adventures in Malaysia
Here I am speaking to Chinese Christians in Malaysia.
I like talking to business men and teaching how
Christian work ethics help their business grow and
their employees flourish in a work environment that
practices and embraces such an ethic.
back to teaching in a church.
Adventures in Jamaica
I enjoyed speaking at this Methodist church in Jamaica, a place I have been too
several times both when I was in the Royal Navy and as a minister.
A church that meets in a tent near Montego bay. Medly is in blue at the back
of the tent. Carribean congregations are very vocal when you preach, something
which I enjoy.
Adventures in South America
These two Waodani Indians actually killed the first missionaries who visited them.
They speared them to death. The story of how they and their tribe became Christian is an
incredible one. The son of the missionary they killed lives among them today. Visit the following
link to read a short account of this incredible story.
Adventures in Walmer
Walmer Baptist Church built in 1904. I have been the Minister here since 2001.
We have a busy church week and schedule
Throughout a year we get visitors from all over the world and country to our
services. They put a pin in our map to let us know where they are from.
The Church sanctuary, repainted and recarpeted. We also use powerpoint
in our Sunday meetings.
I enjoy the ministry of preaching and teaching. The Christian Message is as
powerful and relevant today as it has ever been.
Candles are not a big part of the Baptist tradition but we use them on occasion.
As a Church we are evangelical with a mixed approach of the Charismatic,
Celtic and traditional streams of spirituality
Ministry is not always about public speaking and teaching.
As a professional I often do counseling for people as well life coaching. I have
developed a programme called the Compass Journey which is a philosophical
and practical life coaching journey for those wanting to examine their lives and
be more successful in what they do. Aristotle said 'the unexamined life is not worth living.' I agree.
I have studied Theology, Psychology and Philosophy for most of my adult life.
I enjoy the one to one and small group aspect of ministry as well as the larger
public meetings.
Dover is quite near to Walmer
I am also the chaplain to the port of Dover
I work for The British and International Seafarers Society
We provide a place of rest and relaxation for seafarers at our seafarers centre.
I am also a volunteer on the Walmer Lifeboat Crew. The RNLI provides a vital
emergency service to our coastlines. The Walmer Lifeboat station is a valued
part of the Walmer and Deal community.
This is our smaller D- Class Inshore lifeboat.
Here I am now again in Walmer. I love Walmer and
the people I minister to. I still have many adventures
and still travel now and then. Want to come with me?
